My name is Laurie Dunmire-Beer, and I'm a seminary teacher for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My students call me D-B! I am passionate about my calling as a teacher, and I LOVE the students that I teach! I'm currently in my 10th year of teaching, and I learn so so so so much from the scriptures as well as my students! For some time, I have felt that my passion for what I do has been all pent up inside! A recent lesson on record-keeping has put me into major ponder mode! So, with a new year comes a new start, a new goal. I pray that as I record the lessons I learn from my studies, that they will help strengthen anyone who reads to be a better person and a better follower of Jesus Christ. In Seminaries and Institutes of Religion, we have a standard four-year curriculum which includes Old Testament, New Testament, Book of Mormon, and Doctrine & Covenants/Church History. This year, our study is of the Doctrine & Covenants/Church History. You can go to http://seminary.lds.org/ to learn about the purpose of Seminary and what we do! If you'd like an explanation of what the book of Doctrine & Covenants is, you can go to http://lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/introduction?lang=eng. Since it's a holiday today, I was able to have some time to get this blog up and running. I have no idea what I'm doing, and I'm sure it will show! Eeeeeks!!! It feels a bit vulnerable to be putting my thoughts "out there." I pray that I offend no one by the things I think and believe. Please know that I'm simply writing from my heart the things that are so very near and dear to me. I guess to end my first entry, I thought I'd post a video from Mormon Messages which explains my belief as to why it is we have additional scripture besides the Bible.
We'll see what tomorrow brings!
